Vitas Plytnykas, 41, and Aleksandras Skirda, 20, must serve a minimum of 28 and 20 years respectively following their convictions for murder. The two tortured and killed Jolanta Bledaite, 35, before cutting up her body and throwing it into the sea. Her head was later discovered by a member of the public on a beach at Arbroath in Angus.

Kenny Ritchy was admonished at the High Court sitting in Paisley today on charges of Breach of the Peace. The charges related to actions by Ritchie following his being remanded into custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on charges of Assault and robbery (which were dropped yesterday due to lack of corroborating evidence). Ritchie returned to Scotland in 2008 having spent 20 years on Death Row in the USA.

Tayside Police are probing the sudden detah of an 11 year old boy. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics who attended his Dundee home yesterday morning. A post-mortem will be carried out today.

A survey conducted by the Youth Justice Board has revealed that one in three children admit to having carried a knife or a gun. One in 20 said they had carried an airgun; 3 per cent had carried a “real” gun. However, the survey of 4,750 young people by the pollsters Ipsos MORI found significantly fewer young people were carrying weapons compared with 2005.
