Disaster has struck the city of London tonight as the people of London were daft enough to elect the well known blundering buffoon Boris Johnson as their Mayor.

Only time will tell whether Boris has become a serious politician, but I doubt that very much.

Johnson won the mayoral election on second preference votes with only a total of 139,772 votes between him and Labour Candidate Ken Livingstone.

Across England Labour suffered heavy losses at the polls with the Conservative Party coming out on top. The BBC has used the results to estimate the figures across the United Kingdom and places Labour third, with the Tories and Lib Dems coming first and second. This has truly been a disastrous 48 hours for Gordon Brown and the Labour Party.
